My Opinion Doesn’t Really Matter!

My Opinion Once Again

In my opinion I think I’m typical of many older people in that I find that I have less patience. I have less patience with “Grandma” drivers! You know the ones… who go too slow or are in the left turn lane and they go straight and cut you off and think nothings wrong! The left turn arrow on the street beneath thier car is about 8-10 feet accross and bright yellow but they can’t see it. But what do I know its only my opinion!

Or how about kids who can’t count change back that work in stores. They rely on the computer to tell them what to give back. God forbid if we are ever attacked and they do some sort of EMT Pulse Machine and wipe out all electrical what would these kids do? How about simple courtesy? Holding the door for someone, if you offer someone something in front of other people don’t you also offer it to the others in the room?

In my opinion the next generation coming into the workplace seems to be missing a number of skills.  I think many of them spent too much time in front of the “gaming console” killing off the zombies, running over people, hunting aliens, mastering their online martial arts skills! Unfortunalty those skills just aren’t too popular in the workplace these days. I don’t know, pulling out a 15 inch bowie knife out of the sheath and holding it up to a clients stretched out neck might get the client to sign the contract a little faster!

But then again whom am I to judge. I’m like many other typical baby boomers that grew up having a work ethic, learned common courtesy, I had a full time job since 2nd year of high school, I could entertain myself without the TV or internet (though that is a hard one), volunteer my time when its needed and basically care for my fellow man! Yet so many of  the baby boomers are out of work and our skills just aren’t enough any more. I better keep practicing killing those aliens, who knows when the next job offer might come along it might be important! I forgot what generation this is coming into the workplace. I know there was generation X, we must be on “Z” by now! In My Opinion, its time to start over anyway and the next generation should be “A” and maybe we will get it right this time?

Where is Superman?

I just watched a History Channel show called “DeCoded.” Today’s show was about Fort Knox and the speculation as to wether or not there is any gold in the vault! It also discussed the ramifications of such an event and the impact it would have on our world. Apparently no one has seen the gold since 1974 when the last audit was done.

I’ve been saying for a few years now that I thought our economic world was artificially inflated and that interest rates were to high, houses were valued to high, it just never felt right. During my lifetime the baby boomer years everything just kept going up and up.

If there was no gold in the vaults it would mean that the dollar was worth nothing but the paper its printed on. The gold was taken from the American Public by the government. The Government made it against the law to own gold and made everyone turn it over and the government melted it all down and stored the gold in Fort Knox. Our Gold was the guarantee of the countries economic strength, or at least a belief that it was strong. If our financial world collapsed I believe we would end up like pioneer days. We would have to grow our own food, raise our own livestock or hunt for it if we wanted to keep on living. We would need guns to protect what is ours. As there would surely be riots and people trying to survive.

After the collapse during the Depression everyone had to take care of themselves. There were no jobs only long lines for food and shelter. God I hope I’m wrong but, we’ve never been closer to this possible outcome. Now we really do need a “Savior” to steer us in the right direction. To be honest with you I haven’t seen one of these politicians wanting to be president or even the current one isn’t capable of being that, “Savior.” A Savior is someone that can bring the masses together. Someone that understands the direction we need to go in. Someone you can trust and believe in. Where is Superman when you need him!

I Didn’t Know I Was So Athletic!

BALTIMORE (June 2, 2010) — One of the best post-exercise recovery drinks could already be in your refrigerator, according to new research presented at the American College of Sports Medicine conference this week. In a series of four studies, researchers found that chocolate milk offered a recovery advantage to help repair and rebuild muscles, compared to specially designed carbohydrate sports drinks.

Experts agree that the two-hour window after exercise is an important, yet often neglected, part of a fitness routine. After strenuous exercise, this post-workout recovery period is critical for active people at all fitness levels — to help make the most of a workout and stay in top shape for the next workout.

The new research suggests that drinking fat free chocolate milk after exercise can help the body retain, replenish and rebuild muscle to help your body recover. Drinking lowfat chocolate milk after a strenuous workout could even help prep muscles to perform better in a subsequent bout of exercise.

So thats what that large mass is protruding on the front of my body… Muscle from all the Chocolate Milk I’ve been drinking all these years! Those Double Stuff Oreos were probably helpful also in building that muscle mass! If I only knew I was so athletic, I would have competed more when I was younger! Oh I can feel the burn.. I better get more Hershey’s!

Bar Gymnastics

Some people I know work hard to lower the bar at work.

That was my strategy at gym class in high school. Not only did I do the minimum amount permitted, I worked hard to do just a little bit less than that. By the time the semester was over, the teacher was relieved if I even bothered to show up at all.

Most people seek to meet the bar. They figure out what’s expected, and do that.

A few people, very few, work to relentlessly raise the bar. She’s the one who overdelivers on projects, shows up ahead of schedule, instigates, suggests and pushes.

Raising the bar is exhausting, no doubt about it. I’m not sure the people who engage in this apparently reckless behavior would have it any other way, though. They get to experience a fundamentally different day, a different journey and a different reputation than everyone else.

[Why now? What has changed that makes promoting bar gymnastics more than a selfish effort by the boss to get more labor out of the workforce?

Simple. This is the post-industrial era. Success is not about speeding up the assembly line as much as it relies on individuals able to create leaps forward. The person capable of doing that sort of work is in far higher demand than ever before.]
